Analyzing performance is a messy playground. In the vast jungle of profilers, samplers, debuggers and much more it is often very hard to reason about what is really going on in your program. Intel processors have for some time exposed Processor Trace, an invaluable companion for those who have dared venture into its quiet corner of the Linux performance optimization world. In this session we'll dive into this technology and some of its surrounding infrastructure - Magic Trace.
We will live debug and analyze a running application and discuss the merits of this approach versus some other more widely used tools.
