Blood dropped from this young bull's neck but at first, we couldn't see the wound. As we got closer, the problem was all too familiar: someone had tied a rope around this calf's neck long ago, and then abandoned him. As he grew, the rope became tighter and tighter until it dug through his flesh, and now was embedded in his neck, along with maggots.
We hurried him to our hospital and removed the rope, the maggots and began what would be several months of regular wound dressings, fresh bandages, food and love.
What we discovered in this life-saving process was that we had a big beautiful baby on our hands! We shifted him into the "children's centre" where calves, sheep, goats, chickens, pigeons and tortoises grow big and strong.
Dandy is one of the biggest "people" in the paddock but you'd never mistake him for an adult--he's a great big baby, and he loves his many moms and dads.
