An interesting article popped up on the BBC yesterday about this so I thought I'd talk about it. Are F1 drivers today really just too soft or is it just a byproduct of how things have moved on since the days of James Hunt sleeping, smoking and drinking his way through weekends.
The cars are way safer, the circuits are much safer, the sponsorship money, TV money and so on has increased so much it'd make Colin Chapman's eyes water, and the cars are able to tame the power so they look like they're on rails.
But that doesn't mean the drivers aren't wimps, or not capable of handling things. They're still driving incredibly powerful machines. Maybe it's just that there's a lack of cars dancing around like they used to that makes it look too easy, or sterile.
