Born three months prematurely and weighing just 800 grams, Amina’s start in life could hardly have been more dramatic. She is now in the intensive care unit of a German clinic. Her mother is with her as often as possible. Thanks to modern medicine, extremely premature babies like Amina have a chance of survival. But the long-term consequences are often underestimated. There are around 13 million premature births worldwide every year.
