No.3 seed Coco Gauff narrowly defeated No.7 Zheng Qinwen 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(2) in a 3-hour and 4-minute final to clinch her first year-end championships title at the WTA Finals Riyadh!

The 20-year-old American lifted the Billie Jean King Trophy as her ninth career Hologic WTA Tour singles title, having defeated Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek in the group stage, before a loss to Barbora Krejcikova (when progression to the semifinals was already guaranteed).

Gauff then defeated World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka in the last four en route to her victory over Zheng, in which she was two points away from defeat.

It was also the longest championship match at the WTA Finals since time stats started being tracked in 2008, and she became the youngest American to win the year-end championships since Serena Williams in 2001 (Munich).
