Joe Jackson was an icon throughout high school, compared to Allen Iverson by sure fire Memphis icon himself Penny Hardaway. Jackson was all everything in his high school career, literally Mr basketball for the state of Tennessee in 2009-2010. He was a McDonald’s all American, top 20 player, top 5 point guard, and the #1 player in the state. All in a stacked 2010 class where of the top 20 recruits, 18 of them eventually made the NBA. Joe Jackson wasn’t one of them, but he was right there knocking on the door a few times, signed by the Phoenix Suns after going undrafted and playing for the Memphis Grizzlies summer league team in 2014, playing in the D league right under NBA teams noses winning the most improved player in 2014-15, and signed to play in the summer league with the Phoenix Suns in 2017, a month before it was all thrown away. He was arrested August 2017 for an improper U turn and when pulled over, officers recount smelling a strong smell of raw marijuana as they called it, which led to them asking Jackson to search his vehicle, discovering two hand guns, a .40 caliber under the driver seat, and a loaded .22 in a backpack that also contained a pill bottle with over 100 various colored pills that were later tested and found to be ecstasy. That along with nearly $5000 in all hundred dollar bills. Jackson was arrested and given a bail of $35,000. A few moths later a judge agreed to a pretrial diversion program, which means a person must complete a rehabilitation course, and if they do so, all charges will be dropped.
